I love me some hot chocolate.
I mean luvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv it!
As soon as the weather chills and we get a bit of drizzle, which in Western Washington is every other day in the winter, I want a big cup of hot chocolate with a big dollop of whipped cream or a ton of marshmallows.
But then comes Christmas.
One of my favorite holiday flavors is peppermint.
The other is eggnog. YUMMM eggnog!! Which of course is great boozy too, but let me stick with one flavor at a time.
Where was I?
Ahhh yes!
Cold weather, rain, hot chocolate,……..peppermint.
I just happened to have a small bottle of whipped cream vodka, as well as a bottle of Rumplemintz in my liquor cabinet. And that light bulb went off in my head!
So into the kitchen I went.
And out came this warm, comforting, and very tasty adult beverage.
You can of course omit the booze to make this a family friendly recipe.
Merry Christmas my friends!!
Boozy Hot Chocolate 1/2 c. sugar
1/3 c. high quality unsweetened cocoa powder
1/8 tsp kosher salt
4 1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
4 oz Whipped Cream flavored vodka
2 oz Peppermint Schnapps
2 mini candy canes, crushed

In a small saucepan, whisk together sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Add in milk and vanilla. Turn on heat to medium-high. Whisk continually until well combined. Heat until warm.
To the prepared hot chocolate, add liquor, and ladle into cups. Top with whipped cream and garnish with crushed candy cane.
Makes 3 to 4 cups
