This Double Chocolate Buttermilk Bread recipe is easy to make and so rich, moist, and tender!
If you have been reading my blog for any time You know that I have had some issues with baking in the past. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that when I began my voyage into this whole cooking thing I was more of a “Little bit of this little bit of that” kind of cook.
Welllllllll you can’t do that with baking. It takes precise measurements and following instructions to the “T”.
Me? Follow instructions? Hmmm not something that I have had a lot of luck with in the past.
I am the kind of person that brings something home from the store, takes all of the pieces out of the box, and tries to put it together on my own. Instructions? We don’t need no stinking instructions.
Then when the particular item I am trying to assemble isn’t quite coming together correctly….
Where are those stinking instructions?
But I have had some success with my baking endeavors of late and am feeling a bit bold now (uh oh, look out!).
With it being so close to the holidays Pintrest is flooded, even more so than usual, with baking treasures. I found this recipe there. It originally appeared on Roxana’s Home Baking as Chocolate Buttermilk Bread. It looked and sounded soooooo good.
OK, like I said, I am feeling bold (plus I was in a chocolate mood) so I decided to add even more chocolate in the form of chocolate chips. Hence the double chocolate in the name.
The finished product did not disappoint! Moist, tangy, chocolaty, what more could you want (except maybe MORE)?
I think it would be fun to add some mint flavor to the next batch and make some mint chocolate chip bread…..like I said, I am feeling bold!!
Double Chocolate Buttermilk Bread
1 1/2 cup all purpose flour 3/4 cup cocoa powder 3/4 cup sugar 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup milk chocolate chips 1 egg 1 cup buttermilk 1/2 cup Greek yogurt 1/4 cup butter, melted
Heat the oven to 350 F. Grease a 9×5 loaf pan. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Stir in the chocolate chips, making sure they are coated well with the flour mixture.
In a small bowl, lightly beat the egg. Add the buttermilk, yogurt and melted butter and stir to combine. Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ones and mix just until combined. Do NOT over mix the batter.
Spoon the batter into the greased loaf pan and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Leave the pan to cool slightly on a cooling rack before removing the bread.
Wow, this chocolate bread looks amazing. My mother and my seven-year old son are big chocolate fans and I know they would love this. As a matter of fact, I always joke and say that my Mom's chocolate loving genes bypassed me and went straight down to my son. Lol
I think I am similar, I'm a cook who wings it and that is probably why I've never excelled at baking! But this chocolate bread looks worth a go! I'm doing stuff for a bake sale this week so maybe this is what I'll do!
Upon my realisation with cooking.. Baking is the only thing I am good at – maybe because of my perfectionism nature.. takes me time to make everything perfect. I think in cooking it's not that way that's why I always fail in those area, lol.
