Roasted Strawberry BBQ Sauce

I love roasting just about any fruit or vegetable, so it seemed only natural to add one to a BBQ sauce recipe. I had no idea how wonderful it would turn out, and quickly become a family favorite!

This summer has been all about chillin’ and grillin’ with the family. Warm weather and sunshine just seems to bring everyone together, and what could be better than a BBQ to feed the crowd? So we have been giving our grill, and smoker, quite the work out. I have been going crazy working on all sorts of new sauces, but was super excited about this one. I mean, come on, roasted strawberries? Uhh hellooooo! Although, again my doubting Thomas was not too sure about what I had planned.
Hey, I don’t question him in his domain, the grill, so why should he be able to question me in my kitchen.
Soooooo, I then found out that this weeks Sunday Supper theme was “Summer BBQ Party”.

I love any excuse to call up the family, lay out a spread, and have a good time. Great food + great company = TONS of fun. Oh and some cold beer doesn’t hurt either!
We ended up having the ribs with Roasted Strawberry BBQ Sauce, Deviled Egg Potato Salad, Lemony Broccoli Slaw, and Summer Berry Galette.
Needless to say we were all stuffed!
Oh and all doubts were set aside when the ribs were served. My daughter told me that even though my Pumpkin BBQ Sauce was her favorite, this Roasted Strawberry BBQ Sauce was giving it a run for it’s money!
I want to thank Melanie, from Melanie Makes, for hosting this awesome Sunday Supper event!!

Roasted Strawberry BBQ Sauce

Sweet and tangy, this BBQ sauce is sure to be a crowd pleaser!

  • 2 pounds strawberries, hulled and sliced in half
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons strawberry preserves
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon dry mustard
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Place the strawberries in a single layer on a baking pan lined with foil folded up on the sides to capture the juices and roast until they start to caramelize, about 15-20 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool a bit.
  3. In a medium pot combine the strawberries with the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer. Cook for 30 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent the sugars from burning.
  4. Brush BBQ sauce on your grilled meat during the last 5 minutes of cooking.

Yield: Approx 4 cups
Prep Time: 20 mins.

Cook time: 01 hrs. 10 mins.
Total time: 1 hrs. 30 mins.

    1. Creative! I bet that strawberry adds a nice flavor to the sauce.

    2. Ooohhhhh. Yuuuummmm. This sounds so good. We're having grilled chicken tonight and I'm trying to figure out a way to make this with the ingredients I have in the kitchen right now. I wonder how it would work to roast strawberries that were frozen and thawed? I don't have fresh ones and won't have a chance to go shopping. Hhhmmm.
I would love it if you would bring this recipe to my recipe link party The Yuck Stops Here this week. The party starts Tuesday evening at 8pm ET on my site Hot Momma's Kitchen Chaos. HUGS

    34. I am so glad they love it 🙂 I would definitely give the raspberries a go. Try using this blackberry recipe and subbing in the raspberries https://bobbiskozykitchen.com/2015/06/blackberry-bbq-sauce.html
