This Banana Bread recipe is made even better with the addition of strawberries. It is moist and tender and full of juicy fruit flavor.
Howdy doody foodie peeps 👋
How is your summertime going?
For me, it has seemed to be soooo hectic!
Many of you know that we adopted our boxer/shepherd/possibly mastiff 😲 rescue dog Hawk back in January, and he is doing awesome! He is happy, healthy, and 100 pounds of craziness.
But, we also adopted our lab/Pyrenees puppy, Sia, in April. She is totes adorbs and Mommy’s girl. But, last month she came down with Parvo. I was beside myself because I knew that over 80% of puppies that get Parvo don’t make it. She had been scheduled to get her second booster just as she caught it.
After a night of craziness, and vet visits (we had to go from our vet to the Animal ER Hospital), we got to bring her home. We administered her antibiotics, anti-nausea meds, and sub Q fluids 2 times a day. She really didn’t eat anything for a couple of days so I was super stressed and, to make matters worse, I had to go out of town on business for 3 days.
I was a wreck and actually Facetimed with her every day. Ya, I Facetimed with Kevin too 😂
It was great to hear that she was eating with no nausea at all. I was able to breathe easier and really enjoy my trip to Kansas (if you haven’t read about that you can here).
The best part was when I got home. I walked in the door and was tackled by my 40-pound puppy that was just as wild and crazy as she was before she got sick 😊
So, we had a couple great days, then she came running in from playing outside whining and pawing at her face. When I looked I could see her eyes were swelling shut and pretty soon the whole side of her face was swollen.
My first thought was a bee sting and I knew that could be bad, so I called my vet and they told me to give her Benadryl. I gave it to her and after a while, the swelling went away. She was, of course, pretty sleepy from the meds, but I figured that would be gone by the next day and everything would be back to normal.
Nope, the next day she laid around and wouldn’t really eat. At that point, we thought it might have been a spider bite. We have Hobo spiders here and their bit can be pretty nasty. I just kept an eye on her for the day and, by the next day, all was good.
A few more days and I am woken by her having an accident in our room….twice.
Without going into detail, Parvo not only causes nausea, it involves the other end too. She never had that problem to begin with but now she was.
This went on all day long.
I was stressed out mess!
After testing at the vet we were assured that is was NOT a return of the Parvo, it was just a bit of upset tummy.
Puppies eat the weirdest things and Lord only knows what she might have ingested.
24 hours later, all is good and now she is back to her normal goofball self.
But please! People!!
This dog is going to be the death of me I swear!
So, what do I do when I am stressed?
I cook of course!
I realized that I had bananas that were getting a little too ripe due to my attention being elsewhere. My go-to with overripe bananas is always banana bread.
But I wanted to make something different. Something fresh.
I remembered that I had strawberries in the fridge and immediately my mind went to my favorite combo, strawberries, and bananas. I love that flavor combination so much I made Strawberry Banana Jam so I could have it on my morning toast or muffin 😋
Can I just say that this bread was OhhhEmmGeee amazing?
I could have seriously at the whole loaf myself!
Kevin had two slices and then I made him take the rest into work the next day to keep me from doing just that!
I will say that it was very moist. I think I had a bit more mashed banana that the recipe calls for, so it wasn’t like a regular loaf of bread. But we both loved it. It was moist and almost pudding-like in the center. So if you like your brownies kinda gooey in the middle you will love, love, LOVE this bread (See my notes after the recipe for ways to make the bread more cake/bread-like).
Kevin buttered his bread, I just scarfed mine down ate my slice warm right out of the oven.
I just couldn’t help myself!

Strawberry Banana Bread
This bread recipe combines to of my favorite flavors in an amazingly moist and tender loaf. If you love strawberries and bananas, this bread is a MUST make!!
prep time: 15 minscook time: 1 hourtotal time: 1 hours and 15 mins
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 pinch salt
2 cups bananas (I used 4 small overripe bananas) * See Notes
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup milk * See Notes
1 1/2 cups strawberries, chopped and tossed in 1 tablespoon flour
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a loaf pan with non-stick spray.
In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a separate bowl, combine together bananas, butter, milk, and eggs; pour over flour mixture and stir just until blended. Do not over mix. Fold in the strawberries.
Spread in a loaf pan. Bake in center of the oven for 50 to 60 minutes or until a cake tester inserted in center comes out clean.
Let cool in pan on a rack for 15 minutes. Turn out onto rack; let cool completely.
1 – If you prefer a drier bread you can press your mashed bananas into a strainer to remove the excess liquid.
2 – If you would still like a drier bread, omit the milk and continue on with the remaining recipe.
