You know I have mentioned that I am on a BBQ kick right?
Ya I know, I have mentioned it a LOT. I tend to blabber,
just ask Kevin.
“Did you hear what I just said?”
Yup, that’s pretty much how it goes
But I am just a bit obsessed, now that the weather has warmed up.
I seem to focus in on one type of food for a while and it can get a little crazy sometimes! I can make my family want to run for the hills screaming because I am making them eat yet another version of mac and cheese! I don’t understand.
I mean how can you have too much mac and cheese? Am I right?
OK don’t leave me hanging here, tell me I am right. I need backup people!
Anyway, this current obsession errr kick has my family tickled pink. I pick up the phone and call the kids to see if they are coming over for our, what has now become a weekly thing, family dinner. The first thing I am asked is, “Are you making another burger Mom?” *sigh* they only love me for my burgers.
That is why I was so tickled that Kita, from Girl Carnivore, invited me to be a part of #BurgerMonth.

Now, back to the food part of our program…
When I tried to explain to Kevin the different burgers I was working on he kind of looked at me with that deer in the headlight look. He is a pretty simple guy and likes pretty simple straightforward food. (When I said simple guy I didn’t mean simple guy….uhh sorry honey).
Seriously though, just like his steaks, he likes burgers with some salt, pepper, and maybe a little garlic powder, nuff said. But yet he lives with a food blogger. Yes at times I do try to make recipes easy, and cheaper, but for the most part I like to take a classic dish and spin it as far out as possible.
The first burger I came up with was The Mr T Burger. I wanted an over the top burger that was healthier than normal. Yes it had mayo on it, but I am only human…I wanted some mayo! Then I decided that since I had a healthy burger I wanted to be a big pig……
Yup I said it….big BIG PIG!!!
I wanted as much pig as I could fit on a burger and in my mouth, annnnnd I do have a big mouth, so what I came up with is just right.
My son was drooling over the burger and followed me around like a puppy dog as I carried it out to photos for the blog. He even got into it by taking some pictures on his phone and did a mass text message to just about everyone on his contact list. Which led to what seemed like a million return texts asking him if he was at a new restaurant.
He said, “Yup, it is called Mom’s”. Hehe gotta love that kid!
So without further adieu I give you The Big Pig!
The Big Pig Burger
The Big Pig Burger is an “In yo face” explosion of piggy goodness that requires a large appetite, and lots of napkins!
Preheat your grill to medium-high and preheat the broiler.
Combine the ground pork, bacon, grated onion and juices, grated garlic, salt, and pepper. Form 6 patties.
Grill the burgers for approx 10 minutes on the first side, turn and continue to cook and additional 5 minutes. (Times are approx and based on the thickness of the patties). Place 2 slices of cheese on each patty 2 minutes before you remove them from the grill.
While the burgers are cooking, place the pork under the broiler for 5-10 minutes or until you get browned edges on the pork. Remove from the oven. Drizzle about a cup of BBQ sauce over the pork and combine
To construct the burger place a burger patty on the bottom bun. Top with a generous portion of the pulled pork, then BBQ sauce, and finish off with the heaping spoonful of coleslaw. Cover with the top bun.
