Crispy Garlic Asparagus

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb asparagus woody ends trimmed *See Notes

For the Seasoning

  • 1/2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tsp Tamari or coconut aminos
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine or dry sherry
  • 6 cloves garlic minced, can use 6 teaspoons of garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp of ginger paste or grated ginger

For Garnishes (Optional)

Instructions
 

  • In a large bowl, add all the seasoning ingredients and mix well.
  • Add the asparagus and toss well.

For the air fryer method

  • Transfer to the air fryer basket, making sure the spears are in an even layer. Set the air fryer to 380 degrees F. *See Notes
  • Air fry for 6-8 minutes. Stirring the asparagus (or shaking the basket) halfway through.
  • Sprinkle the cooked asparagus with toasted sesame seeds and Chinese chili flakes if desired.

For the oven method

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F.
  • Season and transfer the asparagus to a large baking sheet.
  • Spread the spears evenly, do not overlap.
  • Cook for about 12-15 minutes, or until desired crispiness.

Notes

This asparagus works best for this recipe. If you cannot find the thin asparagus, you can use a vegetable peeler to remove the tough outer layer of the larger asparagus spears.
To trim the asparagus, hold an asparagus spear by the ends and gently bend it until it snaps, then use that spear as the guide to cut the rest.
Tips for cooking asparagus in the air fryer:
Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Preferably, spread the asparagus spears in a single layer. Cook in batches if needed.
Serve right way after cooking for the best texture!
More seasoning options:
Toss the asparagus in some balsamic vinegar along with salt, pepper and garlic powder.
Try other seasonings such as onion powder, ground cumin, paprika, or red chili flakes if you like a spicier taste.
Give your roasted asparagus an Indian twist by adding some of my Tandoori seasoning blend.
