Spice Up Your Keto Journey with Homemade Avocado Hot Sauce! 🌶️🥑

Looking for a way to add some zest to your keto meals? Let me introduce you to my latest obsession – Avocado Hot Sauce!

But let me back up a bit and tell you how this all came about. Recently, a new Mexican restaurant called Blue Agave opened up in our small town. Now, you might think, "Big deal, another Mexican joint," but trust me, this place is different. It's got that perfect blend of restaurant-style and authentic taco shop vibes, plus, there's a tequila bar! 🍹

On my numerous visits (yes, I'm practically a regular now), I've tried various dishes, but one thing that caught my taste buds every single time was their avocado hot sauce. Creamy, spicy, and downright addictive! After my last visit, I made it my mission to recreate this magic at home. Armed with a little container of the sauce and my determination, I hit the kitchen.

Now, I'm no stranger to making hot sauce. My Roasted Tomato Salsa Roja and Roasted Tomatillo Salsa are always crowd-pleasers. But this avocado hot sauce had a distinct flavor that I was determined to nail down. After a few trial runs (which my family happily volunteered as taste testers for), I finally cracked the code! 🎉

What I love most about this hot sauce, besides the fact that it's keto-friendly and gluten-free (major wins!), is its versatility. Slather it on tacos, drizzle it over salads, dunk your veggies in it – the possibilities are endless! It's creamy, zesty, and packs just the right amount of heat. Trust me; you'll want to put this stuff on everything!

So, if you're ready to take your keto meals to the next level, whip up a batch of this Avocado Hot Sauce and get ready to spice up your life! 💥🔥

    🥘Avocado Hot Sauce Ingredients

These are the ingredients necessary to make Avocado Hot Sauce.

All of the ingredients needed to make avocado hot sauce on a white marble background.
    • Avocado - A ripe avocado should yield slightly to gentle pressure, but it shouldn't feel mushy or overly soft. Additionally, the skin color can vary depending on the variety, but generally, ripe avocados have dark green to almost black skin. Finally, check the stem end: if it easily comes off and is green underneath, the avocado is likely ripe and ready to eat.
    • Jalapeno - When choosing jalapenos, look for peppers that are firm, smooth, and glossy. Avoid jalapenos with soft spots or blemishes as these may indicate age or damage. The color of jalapenos can vary from green to red, depending on the ripeness, but they should have a vibrant hue without any dullness. Additionally, if you prefer milder jalapenos, select those with fewer striations or white lines, as these tend to be less spicy.
    • Onion - White onions are milder and sweeter, with a crisp texture ideal for raw dishes like salads or salsas. Yellow onions have a stronger, more pungent flavor and a slightly sweet taste when cooked, making them versatile for sautéing, caramelizing, or adding depth to soups and stews. Purple onions, also known as red onions, offer a bold, slightly peppery flavor with a touch of sweetness, making them a colorful addition to salads, sandwiches, and pickled dishes.

A detailed list with measurements and instructions can be found on the printable recipe card at the bottom of the page.

Helpful Hint: 💡: When selecting avocados for this hot sauce, choose ones that yield slightly to gentle pressure when pressed with your fingertips. Avoid avocados with dark indentations or overly soft spots, as they may be overly ripe or bruised.

    🍽Equipment

This is the equipment you will need to make Avocado Hot Sauce.

    • chef's knife
    • measuring cups and spoons
    • food processor

    Storage

After preparing the Avocado Hot Sauce, store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The sauce should be consumed within 2-3 days for optimal freshness and flavor but can last up to 7 days.

You can freeze the avocado hot sauce for future use. Simply transfer it to an airtight container or ice cube tray, leaving some room for expansion, and freeze it for up to 3 months. Thaw it in the refrigerator overnight before using and give it a good stir.

    💭Top tip

For a milder hot sauce, start with fewer jalapeno peppers and adjust according to your preferred level of heat. Remember that the heat intensity can vary, so it's always a good idea to taste-test the sauce before adding additional peppers.

    FAQ about Avocado Hot Sauce

Can I adjust the spice level of the hot sauce?

Absolutely! The spice level can be customized based on your preference. If you prefer a milder sauce, you can reduce the number of jalapeno peppers used. For a spicier kick, simply add more jalapenos or leave some of the seeds in.

How long does this hot sauce last in the refrigerator?

When stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, this avocado hot sauce can last for up to 5-7 days. Just make sure to give it a good stir before using, as separation may occur.

Is this hot sauce suitable for a keto diet?

Absolutely! This avocado hot sauce is keto-friendly, as it's made with wholesome ingredients like avocados, jalapenos, onions, and garlic. It's low in carbs and high in healthy fats, making it a perfect condiment for your keto meals.

It does look creamy and inviting, and even minty! 🙂 Usually, dips get soggy after being stored in the refrigerator, but a good stirring would get the liquids back into the dip. The recipe is easy to come by and wouldn’t definitely cost that much. I’m a fan of spicy food and would certainly try this one! Thanks!

Yes, I hate it when dips get soggy. This one was fine if you stirred it up for several days. The lime juice kept it green too 🙂 I hope you give it a try!!

Do you taste the lime in this sauce?

It mostly just balances and brightens the flavors and keeps the avocado from turning brown. If you do not like lime, you could try reducing it to one lime, or substitute lemon.
