Since starting to eat Low-Carb/Keto, and posting Keto-Friendly recipes, I have received a lot of requests for the equipment and pantry items that I use and recommend. So I figured, why not set up a page that has it all so you can use it as you need to.
I will tell you that, especially when it comes to low-carb ingredients, Amazon is the only way to fly because, as an Amazon Prime member, I receive free 2-day shipping on all of my purchases (Plus lots of other great stuff like Amazon photo storage, movies, music, oh I could go on and on). If you aren’t currently a Prime member I really recommend that you Try the Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial. The money you’ll save ordering your ingredients through them, instead of them purchasing at grocery and health food stores is huge, especially with the free shipping. It is more than enough to justify the cost of becoming a member in my opinion!
Just something to consider!
Ok, let's go.....
My Essential Keto Kitchen Tools
A Great Knife – I use my chef’s knife for almost everything, but a good paring knife also comes in handy sometimes! There are a ton of brands out there but my hands down favorite knives are Wusthof. They are a bit of an investment but they are super high quality and will last a lifetime and stand up to endless sharpenings. This is a great starter set and this is the one I use constantly!
A Good Cutting Board - A good knife doesn't do any good without the best foundation below it and this is my favorite. It is extra large so you don't end up backed up if you have a ton of veggies to cut for a recipe. It is nice and strong and, with proper care, will last you a long, long time!
Crockpot / Slow Cooker – everyone should have one of these. Set it and forget it. The end.Nonstick Cookware – I discovered this brand at a conference one year and never looked back. After going through 2 sets of pretty big name brands in about 3 years I decided to invest in a good set and don't regret it one bit.
Veggie Spiralizer – The sky is the limit to the fun and tasty creations you can make with this spiralizer! It turns all kinds of fruits and veggies into delicious low carb, gluten free and paleo friendly noodles for salads or to replace traditional pasta! It’s a must-have for your low carb kitchen!
Vitamix Blender – Vitamix is be all end all of the blender world. You can blend your own nut flours, make coconut and other nut butter, and big batches of soups, sauces, and so on. You can throw your raw ingredients in, blend for a few minutes and it will generate enough energy to cook your food while it’s blending, bing bang boom you have hot soup!
NutriBullet – I love this thing for sooooo many reasons, dressings, gravies, purees, and smoothies! It’s super easy to use and clean for smaller batches!
Immersion Blender – This blender is essential for making soups without having to transfer them to a blender (less fuss, muss, and mess), it also does a great job with making small batches of whipped cream (YUM)! I use this for my bulletproof coffee in the AM and it makes it creamy, frothy, and OH so good!
Dutch Oven – awesome for simmering bone broths, soups, stews, and sauces it also goes from stovetop to oven and back making it super versatile for searing a piece of meat on the stove top and then sending to the oven for a slow braise for a few hours. Mmmm….pot roast for dinner!
Cast Iron Skillet - Some things just require a great sear and you will only get that perfect sear by using cast iron. From steaks to chops, to fish, my cast iron skillet gets quite the work out!
Instant Pot - I can NOT express to you how much I love my Instant Pot! It has replaced my regular stovetop pressure cooker, several slow cookers, and a rice cooker that I used a long time ago but had been banished to the pantry only to be drug out for the family get-togethers. I love the Instant Pot is because of its versatility, and the fact that I can now store one appliance that does everything and gets rid of a bunch of bulky appliances.
The major plus is that you can make tasty low carb dishes in less than an hour! What’s not to love?
If you’re like me and were intimidated by the traditional stovetop pressure cooker, then you take my word that the Instant Pot is safe and so easy to use! You’ll never look back once you try it, I promise! It also won’t heat up your kitchen like a stovetop pressure cooker.
Here is a great pic of the control panel.
I was a bit afraid of all of those buttons but it really is so easy to use! Most of the time I use the saute button to sear the meat or vegetables first, then close the lid, make sure it is in the sealed position and hit manual, high pressure, and punch in the time. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
You can also remove the meat and/or veggies when they are finished cooking, and then use the saute feature again to reduce your sauce so it thickens for serving. No extra muss or fuss!
Plus you can make your own yogurt, cook your rice (or in the keto case, cauliflower rice), and can be used in place of (or alongside) your slow cooker! All of this awesomeness comes in one amazing appliance that only costs around $100!
That is why I big ol' puffy heart my Instant Pot!!
