🥘Keto Stovetop White Mac and Cheese Ingredients
These are the ingredients necessary to make Keto Stovetop White Mac and Cheese.
- Low Carb Pasta - This is my favorite low carb pasta because it closely matches the texture of regular pasta.
- White American Cheese - You can find this in your grocery deli.
- Extra Sharp White Cheddar - This is a must-use ingredient to balance out the cheese sauce.
A detailed list with measurements and instructions can be found on the printable recipe card at the bottom of the page.
Helpful Hint: 💡: To ensure your cheese melts smoothly into the sauce without clumping, have all your cheeses shredded or diced and at room temperature before adding them to the pan. This helps the cheese melt evenly and integrates beautifully with the creamy base.
SUBSTITUTIONS
- Low Carb Pasta - If you can't find the pasta, or just want to lower the carbs even more, you can use steamed or roasted cauliflower florets.
- Cheeses - If you cannot find the white American and extra sharp cheddar you can use the yellow versions.
- Pink Salt - I prefer pink salt for all of my recipes for the flavor and added minerals, but you can use regular sea salt or kosher salt.
🍽Equipment
This is the equipment you will need to make Keto Stovetop White Mac and Cheese.
Storage
Refrigerator: You can store the leftover mac and cheese in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. When ready to reheat, you might want to add a little heavy cream or a splash of milk to help loosen the sauce and keep it creamy.
Freezer: This dish freezes well. To freeze, place the cooled mac and cheese in a freezer-safe container or wrap it well in aluminum foil or freezer wrap. It can be stored in the freezer for up to 2 months. For best results, thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
Reheating: Reheat thawed mac and cheese in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 20-25 minutes or until heated through. If reheating from frozen, cover with foil and heat at 350°F for 45 minutes to an hour, removing the foil in the last 10 minutes. As mentioned, adding a splash of heavy cream before reheating will help maintain its creamy texture.
💭Top tip
For an irresistibly crispy top layer, transfer your combined mac and cheese into a baking dish, sprinkle with a mix of Parmesan and keto breadcrumbs, and broil for a few minutes until golden and bubbly. This adds a delightful crunch that contrasts perfectly with the creamy pasta below.

While this specific recipe relies heavily on dairy products, you can try using dairy-free cheese alternatives and unsweetened almond or coconut milk as substitutes. Keep in mind that this will change the texture and flavor.
