Basic BBQ Rub – This is the BEST BBQ rub, and I have used for years! It has a little bit of sweet and a little bit of heat. We use it for just about everything!
Oooohhhh people, can I just tell ya how much BBQ I have been eating lately?
I don’t have an exact weight, but let’s just say I am staying away from my scale for a while. Oh, don’t get me wrong, we have done a few “light” grilling meals, with some salt, pepper, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes (Kevin’s go-to seasoning), but I have been allllllllllllllll about the sauces, and rubs, and sides. Oh, don’t even get me started on the sides!! *spoiler alert* Loaded Baked Potato Salad will be on the blog ASAP!
We were eating dinner one night and Kevin, out of the blue, looked at me and said, “You have put the recipe for your rub on the blog right?”.
Pan to me looking at him like a deer caught in the headlights *blink blink* “Ummm, well no”.
I was completely caught off guard by this question because I didn’t think he really thought about what I do and don’t have on the blog. Oops! Plus, I never thought about putting a rub recipe out there for you guys. So I told Kevin as much. His response? “What are you, crazy?”
Since we all know that topic is highly debatable, I chose to move beyond it.
“No, I just didn’t think of it as a “recipe””.
He then proceeded to explain to me that he has bragged about my BBQ seasoning/saucing skills to just about everyone at work. He has also passed out my business card and told a few people to check my blog for the recipes. Oops again. But, how awesome is that? He bragged about me! Aawwwww, I guess I will keep him.
So I decided he was right, and over the next couple of weeks I will be sharing the families favorite rub, sauce, and marinade recipes with you. Sound good? I sure hope so! It will really kill two birds with one stone because I will be sharing recipes with y’all, all while not having to turn on my stove. Yessssssssssssssssss *fist bump* you guys ROCK!
OK, on to the recipe.
This is my basic rub, it is easy but adds a lot of flavor to whatever you use it with. You get that sweet/heat thing that works with everything. We have seriously used this on chicken, pork, and beef. I haven’t tried it on fish though. Maybe with all of the salmon Kevin brought home from his fishing trip I will test it out.
He was a happy camper sending me this photo of his first fish.
My son did well too!
This makes enough rub for 4 racks of ribs, at least, but we go through it so fast. I usually make a double batch and store it in a zip lock bag in my pantry. It will last forever. Well not literally forever, but you know what I mean.
Oh, btw, if you mix a bit of this in with your hamburger meat? Heaven!!
