Picture this: you're having one of "those" days, the kids are running wild, the laundry needs done, the dog rolled in the mud and needs a bath, and dinner plans completely slipped your mind. The thought of KFC's crispy fried chicken and creamy coleslaw comes to mind, but alas, you've committed to a low-carb lifestyle. This was my exact predicament, and it sparked the creation of this incredible Keto KFC Coleslaw recipe.
In the days before UberEats and widespread food delivery, the KFC in our small town offered a rare service—they actually delivered. It was my go-to option for those hectic evenings when I hadn't planned or prepped a meal. I would order a bucket of chicken and 2 large coleslaws. However, when I embraced living la vida low-carb, my beloved dinners became a thing of the past.
Determined to capture the essence of that creamy coleslaw I adored, I set out on a culinary adventure. Tons of recipes were tested on my family, from my husband to my grandkids, until we discovered the one that earned a thumbs up from everyone. This coleslaw, inspired by the flavors of KFC, has the perfect balance of creaminess, tanginess, and sweetness.
Some may prefer their coleslaw a bit sweeter, and that's perfectly fine. Feel free to add additional sweetener to suit your taste buds. However, let me assure you that the sweet creaminess that made KFC coleslaw so irresistible is 100% present in this fabulous recipe.
Now, you may be wondering why this recipe hasn't made its appearance on my website until now. Well, sometimes life gets the best of us, and I confess there have been moments when I question my sanity. But fret not, my dear friends, for the time has finally come to share this gem with the world.
Imagine serving this Keto KFC Coleslaw at your next BBQ or get together—a tangy and creamy delight that complements any dish. It's the perfect sidekick to grilled chicken, barbecued ribs, or even a simple summer picnic. The fresh crunch of cabbage, the richness of the creamy dressing, and the hint of tanginess will have everyone reaching for seconds.
So, my friends, grab your ingredients, embrace the youthful joy of recreating classic flavors, and savor every bite of this Keto KFC Coleslaw. It's a testament to the fact that even in the world of low-carb, you can still indulge in the flavors that bring you happiness. Cheers to flavorful memories and the joy of finding new favorites along the way!

🥘Keto KFC Coleslaw Ingredients
These are the ingredients necessary to make Keto KFC Coleslaw.
- Heavy cream - this combined with lemon juice will create a homemade buttermilk.
- Besti Monk Fruit and Allulose Sweetener - this recipe was created using this sweetener. You can use whatever sweetener you prefer but the amounts may be different.
- Grated onion - grated onion is used here (and make sure to catch the liquid from the onion) to add flavor throughout the dressing without chunks of onion to bite into.
A detailed list with measurements and instructions can be found on the printable recipe card at the bottom of the page.
🔪Keto KFC Coleslaw Instructions
This is a basic breakdown of the steps involved in making Keto KFC Coleslaw. You will find the full directions in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
In a mason jar, combine the heavy cream and 1 teaspoon of the lemon juice.
In a large bowl, mix together, the heavy cream buttermilk, mayonnaise, and sweetener.
Add the remaining lemon juice, vinegar, onion, salt, and pepper.
Add the carrot and cabbage and toss to thoroughly coat the cabbage with the dressing.
Hint: For an extra burst of flavor, try adding a sprinkle of celery seed or a pinch of smoked paprika to the dressing. These little touches can take your Keto KFC Coleslaw to the next level!
Substitutions
- Cabbage - instead of shredding your own cabbage and carrot you can use coleslaw mix from the grocery. Just make sure you buy enough to make 8 cups worth.
- Heavy cream - this is used to make homemade buttermilk. If you don't have heavy cream you can use sour cream in a pinch.
- Besti Monk Fruit and Allulose Sweetener - I recommend the use of this sweetener as it is the one I used to design this recipe.
📖Variations
- Bacon Lover's - Crumble some crispy bacon and mix it into the coleslaw for a smoky and savory flavor. It adds an irresistible crunch to the creamy slaw.
- Spicy Kick - For those who enjoy some heat, sprinkle in some red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce to give the coleslaw a spicy kick. Adjust the amount to your desired level of spiciness.
- Creamy Mustard - Incorporate some Dijon mustard or whole grain mustard into the dressing for a tangy and slightly zesty twist. It adds depth of flavor and pairs well with grilled meats.
🍽Equipment
This is the equipment you will need to make Keto KFC Coleslaw.
Storage
Store any leftover coleslaw in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Good for 3-4 days.
These ingredients don't stand up well to freezing.
💭Top tip
To save time on prep, you can use pre-shredded coleslaw mix from the grocery store. Just know that it will be chunkier than the KFC version so the texture is not quite the same.
FAQ about Keto KFC Coleslaw
Yes, you can omit the grated carrot if you're following a strict keto diet. Carrots do contain some natural sugars, so removing them will further reduce the carb content of the coleslaw.
Absolutely! If you prefer a slightly sweeter coleslaw, feel free to add more sweetener to the dressing mixture. Taste and adjust the sweetness to your liking, keeping in mind that different sweeteners may vary in sweetness levels.
When stored properly in an airtight container in the refrigerator, this coleslaw can stay fresh for up to 3-4 days. However, it's best enjoyed within the first 1-2 days to ensure optimal taste and texture.
