Blackberry BBQ Sauce - Sweet, with a little bit of heat, this BBQ sauce has quickly become one of the family faves.
Happy Thursday gang! I know, I am a bit behind on getting this post done right?
Usually, I have them written the day before, and they post by midnight. But, I kind of wanted to write about NOW. Plus, I have been soooo behind. I swear people, if you saw my "To Do" list you would run screaming.
It is crazy long and, with my ADD, I really have no idea where to start, or how to prioritize it. I just kinda stand back and eeny meeny miney mo it.
So technical right?
Ya, that's just how I roll. Seat of the pants and all that stuff.
One of the things that I have been doing, which is totally new and kinda cool, is vlogging. Yup, my mug has been on YouTube a few times this month.
Christy from SouthernPlate.com issued all food bloggers a challenge to vlog every day in June. I decided to take the challenge, but you guys know me, doing anything every day on schedule?
Hahaha ummm ya, I was dreaming.
Luckily Christy isn't a big stickler for rules, so we can post as time is available, and answer the questions we missed.
Oh ya, there are specific questions for each day, so you get to know some details of my wacky world.
This is something that my daughter has been trying to get me to do pretty much since I started blogging, but I just didn't know if I could do it.
Mind you, my videos are pretty plain. No fancy intro (which I would really like so if anyone out there could hook a sister up I would be forever grateful), no editing (because I honestly have no idea how to do it), only recording from my computer (because I don't know how to record on my phone and get it to my computer and I don't have any other way to video), but it has been kinda fun. I love new experiences!
I was super excited yesterday because my daughter got to be on the vlog with me!! Here is that video.
Do me a favor and go comment and subscribe. It would make me feel loved and you would be my new BFF! Yes, I am shamelessly begging right now!
So, what was I doing? Oh BBQ sauce, blackberries, yummy. Yesssss that is it!! Wow, if I am going to post in the AM I must make sure to have a good load of caffeine on board.
Now, this BBQ sauce, OhhEmmGeeeee.
I was dipping my finger in the jar and eating it straight.
Anyone that came over got a spoonful of it shoved in their face.
I love it that much! Luckily so does Kevin.
At first he was torn between my Roasted Strawberry BBQ Sauce and this one, but the more he eats this, which has been a LOT, the more he really likes it. However, being the strawberry junkie that I am (check out this post I did for Parade's Community table...91, yes 91 strawberry recipes folks), that BBQ sauce will be happening in my kitchen soon.
My daughter is the only hold out on this BBQ sauce love (as you can see by the video), she likes it but is a total fanatic for my Pumpkin BBQ Sauce.
Last Christmas she seriously asked for jars of BBQ sauce.
Yes, my kids are a bit strange, the apple doesn't fall too far from that tree!
The weather has been O.M.G. amazing this past week, and it has been sooooo hard for me to sit inside and focus on work.
All I want to do it go outside and lay in the sun. I will admit that when I took the photos of this BBQ sauce I laid in the grass much longer than I needed to. Kevin actually came to check on me to see if I was OK.
But look at that green grass, the sunshine, aaahhhhh I just want to soak it all up. So this weekend I have plans to BBQ, and sit on my back deck. There may or may not be mimosas involved in the whole situation.
How about you? The BBQing I mean, not the mimosas, unless you want to come over, I will save some ribs and a mimosa for you!

Published 06/11/2015
Ingredients
- 4 cups fresh blackberries
- 2 cups chicken bone broth (or store bought)
- 1/2 cup sugar-free ketchup
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 1/2 cup Besti Brown Sweetener
- 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sugar-free blackberry jam
- 2 tablespoons Low Sodium Tamari
- 2 teaspoons pink salt
- 2 cloves of garlic, grated or finely minced
- 1 inch piece of ginger, grated
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Add blackberries and chicken broth to a medium pot over high heat and bring to a simmer. Cook until blackberries start to break down, about 6-7 minutes
- Mash blackberries well in the pan. Then let the blackberry mixture cool a bit and add to a blender. Blend well.
- Press blackberries through a mesh strainer to remove seeds. Add sauce back to pot and bring back to a simmer over medium heat.
- Add other ingredients to the pot and continue to simmer for 30 minutes, or until sauce is thick and coats the back of a spoon.
- Taste and season BBQ sauce with salt as needed.
- Allow sauce to cool. Store in an air tight container in the refrigerator.
Yield: makes 3 to 4 cups of sauce

This looks fantastic. I was watching 'A Chef's Life' on Create the other day and the episode focused on Vivian Howard's famous blueberry bbq sauce. How I wished I could reach through the screen and have some. This blackberry version sounds divine! I'm making corn and blackberry ice cream this week. Blackberry bbg chicken would be a perfect meal accompaniment for that dessert. Thank you.

Hi there, I was curious if the 2tbsp of Blackberry preserves was in addition to the 4 cups of blackberries? We have thousands of blackberries in our yard and I got the idea for a blackberry BBQ yesterday, seems like it already exists: ) But could I make the preserves and then also use 4 cups fresh?
Bobbi | Bobbi's Kozy Kitchen
Hi 🙂 Yes, the preserves is in addition to the fresh blackberries (or frozen). The preserves just help add a tad deeper blackberry flavor. Of course, if you have homemade it would be awesome to use!

Thank you for this recipe it sounds amazing, I can’t wait to make it. I have been trying to fine a recipe that you can put up and can. I am having so much trouble finding a canning recipe. Can you help me out?
Bobbi | Bobbi's Kozy Kitchen
The thing about canning BBQ sauce is that they usually contain some kind of tomato product and it isn't safe to can that at home. I know it sucks because I wanted to put up my spaghetti sauce 🙁

Have you ever canned large batches of the bbq sauce recipe? This is my intention and very excited about it.

I made this recipe 2 days ago, twice! We were very surprised about how good it was and with the abundance of blackberries this year I went ahead and made some more to can. We had a rack of ribs in the freezer so that is what this went on yesterday. Very good! They only thing I did was reduce the heat (the cayenne pepper). I am not a big fan of the heat but if people like that sort of thing I am sure the amount you have listed in the recipe is fine. Thank you so much for posting the recipe!

Oh I am so happy to hear you enjoyed this recipe! I haven't made this since I went low carb and you have spurred me on to adapt it because we really do love this BBQ sauce! Thanks so much for your comment 🙂

I did this BBQ sauce this afternoon and it was lovely. I put it over a chicken and roasted it, with extra for pouring over afterwards. My hubby is the BBQ sauce king in our house, so when he got back from work he added some of his ‘magic’ ingredient, which is a mix of onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, brown sugar and Kashmiri chilli. We also put a bit of Worcestershire sauce in too. It was lovely and we’ll definitely do it again.
