OK, now before you all come together with a resounding chorus of "Avocado Free Guacamole? What the heck", and think about revoking my foodie card, let me explain.
Why would I ever take one of the best dips of all time and switch it up?
Well, for those that don't know, a little over a year ago I developed an allergy to avocados. Like a, get my butt to the ER because I can’t breathe allergy!
I know, it is OK to shed a tear, I still quietly cry about it often. Although Kevin would consider it more whining than crying, I have been found hovering over my beloved avocados in the produce department, gently caressing them with visions of tacos, tostadas, and burritos dancing through my head.
So, when I got the opportunity to partner up with Cascadian Farm Organics, and tasted all of their amazing tasting frozen veggies and fruits, I was immediately drawn to my next favorite veg....asparagus.
YUM right?
Of course right!
Now, this is where the imagination came into play. How could I take this lovely veggie, and transport it into my long lost love?
- Asparagus is a very good source of fiber, folate, vitamins A, C, E and K, as well as chromium, a trace mineral that enhances the ability of insulin to transport glucose from the bloodstream into cells.
- Asparagus can help fight cancer, along with avocado, kale and Brussels sprouts, and is a particularly rich source of glutathione, a detoxifying compound that helps break down carcinogens and other harmful compounds like free radicals. This is why eating asparagus may help protect against and fight certain forms of cancer, such as bone, breast, colon, larynx and lung cancers.
- Asparagus is packed with antioxidants: It's one of the top ranked fruits and vegetables for its ability to neutralize cell-damaging free radicals.
- Another anti-aging property of this delicious spring veggie is that it may help our brains fight cognitive decline. Asparagus delivers folate, which works with vitamin B12—found in fish, poultry, meat and dairy—to help prevent cognitive impairment.
P.s. why don’t you go out and grab some Cascadian Farm Organic asparagus and peas, and make this for your Cinco de Mayo celebration? Sit back, and see if anyone can tell the difference. I think you will be happily surprised, just like I was!

I haven't had guacamole is SO LONG due to avocado insensitivity. This dip is music to my ears. I can't wait to try it!
Bobbi | Bobbi's Kozy Kitchen
Yay!! I am so glad! Nobody believed me that it would taste good, but they had to eat their words hehe

Avo free?! I don't know if I can be convinced...perhaps I need to try it out 😉

It must be hars to be alergic to avocado! Yet I believe this recipe is awesome! I will try this recipe with grilled asparagus one day!
Anjali
What a great idea!! My cousin is actually allergic to avocado and always wants guac at parties. I'll have to tell her about this recipe!
Beth @ Binky's Culinary Carnival
Thank you for this! I too have had several severe reactions to avocado! I keep walking by them in the market thinking maybe I should try them again but always talk myself out of it. Who wants to plan a day to be sick.
Bobbi | Bobbi's Kozy Kitchen
I hope you do Sophia 🙂 I think you will be pleasantly surprised!

Oh it is soooo hard, but atleast now I can enjoy one of my favorite dips!! I think it would be amazing with grilled asparagus too.
Bobbi | Bobbi's Kozy Kitchen
Thanks Anjali! Oh yes, if she misses guacamole as much as I did she will love this!!
Bobbi | Bobbi's Kozy Kitchen
Haha I know what you mean Beth. My boyfriend has to direct me away from the avocados quite often, but after two ambulance trips I had to come up with a way to enjoy guacamole safely 🙂
Nutmeg Nanny
What an awesome recipe! I love that it's such a great option for avocado haters or people with allergies.
Liz's Lemon Bowl
I was in Mexico recently at a health and wellness spa and they used peas in the guacamole to cut down the fat a bit. Love this idea!

I wondered how many people shared my allergy, and am amazed by the numbers! I am so glad that this recipe can help them (just like me) enjoy an old fave again!!
Bobbi | Bobbi's Kozy Kitchen
Thanks Liz! Yes, I read a few recipes that subbed peas 🙂 I had to add my second fave veggie, asparagus. I think cooked asparagus kind of mimics that creamy texture you get from avocado.
Kim Bee
I think this is a great idea. There's so many people who are sensitive nowadays so this is a great workaround. Non-dippers can now dip. You rock.
Bobbi | Bobbi's Kozy Kitchen
Thanks Kim! We had the kids over for a carne asada feed last night, and this was what we had in place of the traditional guac, they both were very happy with it. I think my son was a bit miffed at the Greek yogurt in place of sour cream, but the guac they loved hehe
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen
While I'm a huge fan of the real stuff, this is a great alternative! My mom can't eat avocados any more either (not an allergy just really bad heartbun and stomach issues or something) and she's always left out of the dip party. Loving this veggie packed option instead!

Yes, I feel for anyone that has to suffer through a guac free party 🙂 Now she can enjoy along with!

Im allergic to asparagus too! What else does anyone think I could use? I was thinking pistachio paste??
Bobbi
Dang, I am not sure. Possibly green beans? I just haven't tried any other veggies. Sorry!

can you use canned asparagus and canned peas?
Bobbi
I have not done so myself but I would say yes. I just always have frozen veggies here 🙂
