🥘Ingredient Notes
- Fresh Blueberries (or Frozen, Thawed): Bursting with natural sweetness and vibrant color, blueberries are the star of this sauce. They bring a delightful tartness that perfectly balances the flavors, and using fresh or frozen means you can enjoy this recipe year-round!
- Water: This simple ingredient helps create the ideal sauce consistency. It allows the blueberries to break down easily, melding flavors without overpowering the natural taste of the berries.
- Sugar-Free Ketchup: A foundational ingredient that adds depth and richness to the sauce. Look for a high-quality sugar-free version to keep the carb count low while ensuring you don’t sacrifice flavor.
- Lemon Juice: Bright and zesty, lemon juice adds a refreshing acidity that enhances the overall flavor profile of the BBQ sauce. It also helps balance the sweetness of the blueberries and sweetener.
- Besti Brown Sweetener: This is my favorite low-carb sweetener that replicates the taste of brown sugar without the carbs! It contributes a rich, caramel-like flavor that elevates the sauce and makes it irresistibly delicious.
- Organic Balsamic Vinegar: With its complex sweetness and tangy undertones, organic balsamic vinegar adds a sophisticated layer to the sauce. It brings out the best in the blueberries and complements the savory ingredients beautifully.
- Liquid Aminos: A fantastic soy sauce alternative, liquid aminos provide a savory umami flavor without the gluten. It enhances the sauce's richness and brings a depth of flavor that elevates every bite.
- Pink Sea Salt: Not only does pink sea salt enhance the overall taste, but it also brings a hint of mineral goodness to the sauce. A little pinch goes a long way in balancing the sweetness and heightening the flavors.
- Organic Garlic Powder: This ingredient adds a warm, aromatic note that pairs perfectly with the sweetness of the blueberries. Garlic is a classic flavor in BBQ sauces.
- Ginger Paste: Bringing a zesty warmth, ginger adds a refreshing kick to the sauce. Using a garlic paste helps ensure that it is incorporated into the sauce well.
- Cayenne Pepper: Just a touch of cayenne pepper gives the sauce a subtle heat that balances the sweetness and tang. It adds an exciting layer of flavor, making your taste buds dance with joy!

🔪How to Make Low-Carb Blueberry BBQ Sauce
These are a couple of the steps involved in making Low-Carb Blueberry BBQ Sauce. The full directions are in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
Add blueberries and water to a medium pot over high heat and bring to a simmer. Cook until blueberries start to break down.
Once the blueberries are cooked down, mash them well in the pan, then let the mixture cool slightly. Blend using an immersion blender (or transfer to a blender) until smooth, and press the mixture through a mesh strainer.
Helpful Hint: 💡 If using a traditional blender to puree the hot blueberry mixture, be cautious. Always allow the sauce to cool slightly before blending to avoid steam buildup, which can cause the lid to pop off and splatter hot sauce. Alternatively, use an immersion blender directly in the pot for added safety and convenience.
Substitutions
- Fresh Blueberries: If blueberries are out of season or you prefer a different flavor, you can use fresh raspberries or blackberries. Both will give a slightly different taste but still maintain that fruity essence.
- Lemon Juice: If you need a substitute for lemon juice, you can use lime juice or apple cider vinegar for a similar acidity and brightness.
- Liquid Aminos: You can substitute liquid aminos with soy sauce (regular or low-sodium) or tamari for a gluten-free option.
🍽Equipment Needed
This is the equipment you will need to make Low-Carb Blueberry BBQ Sauce.
Storage and Reheating
Storage Instructions:
- Refrigeration: Allow the sauce to cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. This sauce tastes even better as the flavors meld together over time!
- Freezing: If you’d like to store the sauce for a longer period, you can freeze it. Place the cooled sauce in a freezer-safe container or a ziplock bag, ensuring all air is removed. It can be frozen for up to 3 months.
Reheating Instructions:
- Stovetop: To reheat the sauce, pour it into a saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally until warmed through. You may need to add a splash of water if the sauce thickens after refrigeration.
- Microwave: Place the desired amount of sauce in a microwave-safe container and cover it loosely. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until warmed to your liking.
💭Top tip
Feel free to taste the sauce as it simmers and adjust the sweetness and spice to your liking. Add more Besti Brown Sweetener for a sweeter BBQ sauce, or increase the cayenne pepper for a spicier kick. This allows you to create a flavor profile that perfectly suits your taste preferences!

Pink sea Salt? Or pink Himalayan Salt? Most sea Salt I’m familiar with is white or gray Celtic sea Salt.
bobbiskozykitchen
Either because technically, Himalayan salt is a sea salt, even though it's mined like rock salt, it is the result of ocean deposits. So I should just say pink salt and that will alleviate any confusion.
