Add blueberries and water to a medium pot over high heat and bring to a simmer. Cook until blueberries start to break down, about 6-7 minutes
Mash blueberries well in the pan. Then let the blueberry mixture cool a bit and blend with an immersion blender (or transfer to a blender).
Press blueberries through a mesh strainer. Add the sauce back to the pot and bring back to a simmer over medium heat.
Add other ingredients and continue to simmer for 30 minutes, or until sauce is thick and coats the back of a spoon.
Taste and season BBQ sauce with salt as needed.
Allow sauce to cool. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Makes approx 2 to 3 cups of BBQ sauce. Nutritional info is based on 2 cups.
