HCreamy Chipotle Pumpkin Soup: A Spicy Fall Favorite
Warm up with this Creamy Chipotle Pumpkin Soup, the ultimate fall comfort food! On a chilly day, there’s nothing quite like curling up by a roaring fire in your favorite sweats, feeling cozy and snug. And what better way to embrace the season than with a delicious, hearty soup featuring the delightful flavors of pumpkin?
This year, I’ve been experimenting with savory pumpkin dishes, proving that pumpkin isn’t just for desserts! While most people think of pumpkin pie or sweet treats, I’ve discovered its deep, rich umami-like flavor makes it perfect for savory meals. After enjoying a variety of pumpkin dishes—from Pumpkin Chili to Pumpkin Alfredo and even Sausage Stuffed Pumpkin—I realized I hadn’t yet made pumpkin soup. That’s when the inspiration struck!
As a self-proclaimed soup lover, I couldn’t resist whipping up a pot of creamy goodness. However, my husband, a die-hard meat lover, is usually skeptical about my soup creations unless they’re packed with protein. Thankfully, he’s learned to roll with my soup obsession over the years. To keep the peace, I often serve him a hunk of meat alongside whatever soupy concoction I’m making.
When I first tasted this Creamy Chipotle Pumpkin Soup, I was ecstatic. My husband had just gotten home from the night shift, and I eagerly served him a spoonful, hoping for an enthusiastic endorsement. While his initial reaction was lukewarm, my son and his fiancée were more than willing to taste it—and their delighted faces told me everything I needed to know. With raised eyebrows and smiles, they dug in for more, prompting me to do my happy foodie dance—a true touchdown moment for any food blogger!
As it turned out, my husband just needed a moment to wake up his taste buds. When he realized how good the soup was, he devoured a large bowl for himself without any meat on the side! That, my friends, is a ringing endorsement of how delicious and satisfying this soup really is.
So, if you’re looking to warm up with a rich, comforting, and flavorful soup this fall, try my Creamy Chipotle Pumpkin Soup. It's gluten-free, low-carb, and packed with flavor that will delight your family and friends.

🥘Creamy Chipotle Pumpkin Soup Ingredient Notes

- Celery: Adds a depth of flavor to the soup and is also a low-calorie vegetable that contributes to the overall nutritional profile of the dish.
- Carrot (Optional): While not essential, carrots add a natural sweetness and color to the soup. They provide additional vitamins and minerals, making the soup even more nutritious.
- Chipotle Chile in Adobo: This ingredient brings a smoky, spicy kick to the soup. Chipotle chiles are dried and smoked jalapeños, and the adobo sauce adds depth of flavor. Adjust the amount to your heat preference.
- Garlic: Adds robust flavor and aroma to the soup.
- Pure Pumpkin Puree: The star of the soup, pumpkin puree provides a creamy texture and rich flavor.
- Onion Powder: A convenient way to infuse the soup with the sweet and savory flavor of onions without the texture and carbs. It complements the pumpkin and chipotle well, adding depth to the dish.
- Chicken Bone Broth: This ingredient forms the base of the soup and adds richness and flavor. You can use homemade or high-quality store-bought broth.
- Heavy Whipping Cream: This ingredient adds creaminess and richness to the soup, balancing out the spices and pumpkin. It also gives the soup a luxurious texture.
- Fresh Cilantro (Optional): Cilantro adds a burst of freshness and color to the soup. It can help to brighten the flavors and provides a hint of herbal notes, making it a lovely garnish.

Helpful Hint: 💡 For an extra layer of flavor, you can roast your pumpkin puree before adding it to the soup. Simply spread the puree on a baking sheet and roast it in the oven for about 15-20 minutes until it caramelizes slightly. This will enhance the natural sweetness and richness of the pumpkin.
Storage and Reheating
Storage Instructions:
- Refrigerator: Allow the soup to cool to room temperature, then transfer it to an airtight container. Store it in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days.
- Freezer: For longer storage, freeze the soup in an airtight container or heavy-duty freezer bag. It can be frozen for up to 3 months. Be sure to leave some space at the top of the container, as the soup may expand when frozen.
Reheating Instructions:
- Stovetop: Pour the desired amount of soup into a pot. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the soup is warmed through. You may need to add a splash of broth or water if it has thickened.
- Microwave: Transfer the soup to a microwave-safe bowl. Cover with a microwave-safe lid or plate. Heat on high for 1-2 minutes, stirring halfway through, until heated to your liking.
- Note: If frozen, thaw the soup in the refrigerator overnight before reheating.

💭Top tip
If you prefer a smoother soup, blend it in batches using a regular blender instead of an immersion blender. Be cautious with hot liquids, as they can splatter. Allow the soup to cool slightly before blending, or blend in smaller batches to ensure safety and achieve the perfect creamy texture!
