This Homemade Poultry Seasoning is my go-to seasoning blend for all things poultry. Whole chicken, chicken breasts, thighs, etc. Rub a little of this seasoning on and you are good to go!
What I love about making my own Homemade Poultry Seasoning Blend, or any other seasoning blend is that you can dial the flavor in to suit yourself and your family. Add a little more of this, or a little less of that, and everyone is happy.
Also, one of the best ways to save some money is to make your own seasoning blends.
I started doing this because I was eating low carb and so many of the things we normally buy have hidden things like tons of sugar or chemicals I can't even pronounce.
Then I realized that I was saving money by making my own seasoning blends. I was paying pennies on the dollar by purchasing my spices in bulk and making my own blends.
It also means I don't run out of my blends!
I mean, I don't know about you but, I can't tell you how many times I have planned to make something for dinner fully expecting to have enough of a certain seasoning only to start prepping and find that I need a tablespoon of something and only have a teaspoon!
Who wants to grab their keys, jump into their car, and drive to the store right before you cook dinner?
Not me!
Now I just grab a few jars, whisk things together, and BOOM I am ready to cook!

The blend of poultry seasoning I use adds garlic and onion. Why don't you use it?
I chose to stick with the basic herbs that I use when I cook poultry. Things that I would use fresh for if I had it. Also, leaving them out allows people to use fresh garlic and onion if they prefer to, or they can add the powders to suit their tastes. Feel free to add them to the mix. The same goes for salt.
Do I have to grind the ingredients for this Poultry Seasoning in a spice grinder?
Many of my seasoning blends like my Italian and Greek seasoning aren't ground. That is because I use them for seasoning in sauces, soups, stews, as well as on meat and vegetables. This poultry seasoning is used as a rub on chicken and turkey along with being used in soups, sauce, etc so grinding it into a powder helps it to adhere to the poultry evenly and make sure it has even coverage.
How long does this Homemade Poultry Seasoning last?
As long as it is stored in an airtight container in a cool dry place it should last up to 6 months easily. But that is why I make small batches, to ensure that it is used long before it could expire.
Last thoughts about Homemade Poultry Seasoning
I know it will probably sound weird but, this poultry seasoning reminds me of my grandpa.
He was, aside from my Dad, my favorite person in the whole wide world!
One of my biggest memories of him was the stuffing he would make at the holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas always had a dish of his simple stuffing on the table and it was the first thing I went for!
So now, when I make my roasted whole chicken, or pan sear some chicken breasts, the smell and the flavor always bring back memories of my Grandpa and I can't help but smile.
