My husband asked me the other day why I make all of these homemade spice blends.
I explained that is started out with my Low Carb BBQ Dry Rub because so many dry rubs contain a huge amount of sugar and that was a no-no if I wanted to stay low carb and keto.
Then I realized that I was saving money by making my own rub at home and realized that, with the amount of spice blends I was using, I could probably save us a ton of money if I made them myself at home too.
I mean seriously, there is not a week that goes by that I am not using an Italian seasoning, a Cajun seasoning, a taco seasoning, a curry blend, etc. and, when you start adding up the cost it can really be a lot.
But, if I buy my spices in bulk I can whip together all of those spice blends, and more, for a fraction of the cost.
Budget Bobbi for the win!
Also, making your own allows you to really dial the flavor in to suit your family.
For instance, the Mr and I like things on the spicy side so I add crushed red pepper flakes to my Italian seasoning blend. But, leave it up to you to keep that in or take that out based on what you want from the seasoning.
And it is the same with this Homemade Pumpkin Spice Blend.
This is pretty dead on to the pumpkin pie spice you would buy in the store. However, you can customize it to suit your needs.
Are you a huge cinnamon fan but not a big fan of nutmeg? You can adjust the amounts.
Want a little more ginger to come through? Add more if you like.
It is all up to you and I like it that way!
