🥘Keto Smash Burger Tacos (Big Mac) Ingredients
These are the ingredients necessary to make Keto Smash Burger Tacos.
- Keto Tortillas - If you don't want to make my homemade keto tortillas you can use a store-bought keto or low-carb tortilla.
- Ground Beef - I use an 85/15 grass-fed ground beef for this recipe.
- American Cheese - While I am not normally a huge fan of this cheese it is the classic Big Mac cheese.
A detailed list with measurements and instructions can be found on the printable recipe card at the bottom of the page.
🔪Keto Smash Burger Tacos (Big Mac) Instructions
This is a basic breakdown of the steps involved in making Keto Smash Burger Tacos. You will find the full directions in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
In a small mixing bowl, whisk together all the sauce ingredients. Transfer to a glass jar storage container, such as a mason jar, and refrigerate until ready to use.
On a clean work surface, smash the 4-ounce ball of ground beef evenly over the flour tortillas until almost completely covered (leave the edges clean).
Heat a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat until lightly smoking. Add one or two patties meat side down and lightly press onto the skillet.
Cook for 4-5 minutes, flip, add a slice of American cheese, and cook for another 1 or 2 minutes.
Helpful Hint: 💡: To achieve that authentic Big Mac flavor, let your Big Mac sauce sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before using it. This allows the flavors to meld and intensify, enhancing the overall taste of your tacos.
Substitutions
- Ground Meat: If you prefer a different type of ground meat, such as turkey, or chicken, or a meat alternative like plant-based crumbles, feel free to substitute it for ground beef. Just make sure it's seasoned well to match the Big Mac flavor.
- Tortillas: While we recommend our homemade keto tortillas, feel free to use store-bought keto or low-carb tortillas.
- Cheese: If you're not a fan of American cheese, experiment with other cheese varieties like cheddar, Swiss, or pepper jack for a different flavor profile.
- Lettuce: While iceberg lettuce is the classic choice, you can use romaine, butter lettuce, or even spinach for a fresh crunch.
- Onions: Feel free to use red onions, green onions, or caramelized onions for a unique twist in flavor and texture.
- Pickles: If you prefer a spicier kick, consider using jalapeño slices or bread-and-butter pickles for a sweeter touch.
📖Variations
- Bacon Bliss: Add a slice of crispy bacon to each taco for a delicious bacon cheeseburger twist.
- Avocado Delight: Include some creamy avocado slices or guacamole for a creamy and rich addition.
- Mushroom Madness: Sautéed mushrooms with garlic and butter can be a delectable topping, creating a mushroom Swiss burger taco.
- Double Decker: Create a double-decker taco by stacking two tortillas with an extra layer of Big Mac sauce, beef, and toppings for an indulgent treat.
- Sriracha Surprise: Spice things up by drizzling Sriracha sauce or adding chopped jalapeños for a fiery kick.
🍽Equipment
This is the equipment you will need to make Keto Smash Burger Tacos.
Storage
Refrigeration:
- First, remove any remaining Big Mac sauce from the tacos if possible. Excess moisture can make the tortillas soggy.
- Place the leftover tacos in an airtight container or wrap them tightly in aluminum foil or plastic wrap to prevent air exposure.
- Store the container or wrapped tacos in the refrigerator.
- Consume the leftovers within 1-2 days for the best quality.
Reheating: When you're ready to enjoy your leftover tacos:
- Preheat an oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Remove the tacos from the refrigerator and unwrap them.
- Place the tacos on a baking sheet.
- Reheat in the oven for about 10-15 minutes or until they are heated through.
- Alternatively, you can reheat them in a microwave, but be cautious not to overheat, as it can make the tortillas too soft.
Serving Leftovers: You can serve your reheated leftovers with additional fresh lettuce, onions, or pickles to refresh the toppings. Adding a bit of extra Big Mac sauce can also help revive the flavors.
By following these storage and reheating tips, you can enjoy your Keto Smash Burger Tacos for another delicious meal without sacrificing their taste and texture.
💭Top tip
For the perfect taco assembly, use your hand to gently press the ground beef onto the tortillas. This allows you to have control and not tear the tortilla.
