This Jalapeno Ham Salad recipe is the result of my love of that good old canned deviled ham, plus my desire to eat cleaner, and my need to find a way to use up leftover holiday ham.

I, like many of you I am sure, grew up eating deviled ham. If it came in a can or a box my Mom bought it!

I actually liked the flavor, even if the texture was slightly off-putting.

My husband agreed with me about the texture issue, and I am always on the lookout to eat a bit cleaner whenever we can, PLUS I had a ton of leftover ham that I needed to do something with.

After going back and forth with the family over what flavors they would like me to use to "devil" the ham salad, we decided on jalapeno and onion. Those were spicy flavors that we all enjoy.

The result is a tasty ham salad that you can add more or less jalapeno to depending on the level of spice you want in your ham salad.

You also control the texture by processing it just to the point that you want it, so feel free to go chunky, or super smooth.

    FAQS ABOUT JALAPENO HAM SALAD

Can I make this recipe with another protein besides ham?

Absolutely! This works really well with cooked chicken too. Just make sure to taste and adjust the seasoning because the chicken version will need more salt.

Is this deviled ham really spicy?

I don't think it is. Pickled jalapenos don't usually pack a ton of heat. But, if you are nervous about it being too spicy add half of the jalapenos, taste, then add the rest if you want them.

How long will this ham salad last in the fridge?

It should be good for up to 5 days.

Reasons we love this Jalapeno Ham Salad (Deviled Ham) recipe

    • I control the ingredients/what goes into it. No additives or preservatives that we don't want.
    • I can control the spice level. If the little ones are going to be eating with it I can dial it back and if it is just going to be us I can crank the heat!
    • It is a great way to use up leftover ham (or chicken) so that nothing goes to waste. We aren't huge leftover people so if it was left to us to eat the same thing for multiple meals it would probably go to waste. This makes it fresh and new and super delicious!
