🥘Sugar-Free Cinnamon Rolls Recipe Ingredient Notes

    For the rolls

    • Whole Milk: The sugar in the milk helps feed the yeast in the absence of sugar. Substitution: Can use warm water, but add a teaspoon of real honey.
    • Eggs: They not only provide moisture and richness to the dough but also contribute to the overall texture of the rolls. Substitution: I have not tried egg substitutes for this recipe
    • Butter: Enhances the texture and flavor of the rolls. Substitution: I have not tried a substitution.
    • All-Purpose Flour: Creates the authentic bread texture. Substitution: Possibly gluten-free flour if needed.
    • Pink Salt: Enhances flavors while providing essential minerals needed on a keto diet. Substitution: Regular sea salt works but lacks mineral benefits.
    • Monk Fruit Allulose Sweetener: Provides sweetness without aftertaste. Substitution: Any granulated keto sweetener, though allulose, helps maintain moisture.
    • Active Dry Yeast: Creates a rise and authentic bread flavor. Substitution: Instant yeast can be used with an adjusted rising time.

    For the filling

    • Best Brown Sweetener: Creates classic cinnamon roll flavor. Substitution: I prefer the taste of this sweetener, but any keto brown sugar substitute could work, though the amount and final texture may vary.
    • Ground Cinnamon: Essential for traditional flavor. Substitution: Use fresh, high-quality cinnamon for best results.
    • Softened Butter: Helps the filling stick and creates a gooey texture. Substitution: Must use real butter for proper results.

    For the frosting

    • Cream Cheese: Creates rich, tangy frosting. Substitution: Full-fat cream cheese only for proper consistency.
    • Butter: Adds richness and flavor. Substitution: None
    • Powdered Sweetener: Ensures smooth, lump-free frosting. Substitution: Must be a powdered version of your chosen sweetener.
    • Pink Salt: Enhances flavors while providing essential minerals needed on a keto diet. Substitution: Regular sea salt works but lacks mineral benefits.

The printable recipe card at the bottom of the page contains a detailed list of measurements and instructions.

    🍽Equipment Needed

You will need this equipment to make this Sugar-Free Cinnamon Rolls Recipe.

    • measuring cups and spoons
    • Large Mixing Bowl
    • Wooden Spoon
    • 9 x 13 baking dish

    Storage and Reheating

    Storage:

    • At Room Temperature: Store leftover cinnamon rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Make sure they are completely cooled before sealing to prevent moisture buildup.
    • In the Refrigerator: For longer storage, refrigerate the cinnamon rolls in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
    • In the Freezer: If you want to keep them for an extended period, freeze the cinnamon rolls. Wrap each roll individually in plastic wrap and then place them in a freezer-safe bag or container. They can be frozen for up to 3 months.

    Reheating:

    • Microwave: To reheat, place a cinnamon roll on a microwave-safe plate and cover it with a damp paper towel to keep it moist. Microwave for about 15-20 seconds or until warmed through. Adjust the time as needed based on your microwave's wattage.
    • Oven: For a crispier texture, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the cinnamon rolls on a baking sheet and cover them loosely with foil to prevent over-browning. Heat for about 10-15 minutes or until warmed through.
    • Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 300°F (150°C). Place the cinnamon rolls in the basket and heat for 5-8 minutes, checking to ensure they don’t overcook.

These storage and reheating methods will help maintain the deliciousness of your cinnamon rolls! Enjoy!

    💭Top tip

If you’re feeling ambitious, consider doubling the recipe and freezing a batch of the rolled unbaked cinnamon rolls. Simply place them in a freezer-safe container or wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and foil. When you’re ready to enjoy them, just let them thaw in the fridge overnight and bake them fresh in the morning for a delightful breakfast treat!

FAQ about this Sugar-Free Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

Can I use a different type of flour instead of all-purpose flour?

You could possibly use a gluten-free all-purpose flour for this, but all-purpose has created the best results.

What can I do if my dough doesn’t rise?

Ensure that your yeast is fresh and has not expired. Also, make sure the liquid ingredients are warm, not hot, as high temperatures can kill the yeast. If the dough still doesn’t rise, try placing it in a warmer location.

Can I add nuts or other fillings to the cinnamon rolls?

Absolutely! Feel free to mix in chopped nuts, sugar-free chocolate chips, or dried fruits into the filling for extra flavor and texture.

    Ingredients

    For the Rolls

    • 1 cup warm milk

    • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 tsp pink salt
    • 1/2 cup Besti Monk fruit and Allulose Sweetener
    • 1 package active dry yeast

    For the Filling

    • 1 cup Besti Brown Sweetener packed

    For the Frosting

    • 3 ounces cream cheese softened

    • 1/8 tsp pink salt
    Get Recipe Ingredients

    Instructions

    • Dissolve the yeast in the warm milk in a large bowl. Mix in the sweetener, butter, salt, and eggs. Add the flour in quarters and mix well. It will get a little stiff, but keep at it until it’s well mixed! If it becomes too difficult to mix, dust your hands with flour and finish mixing by hand.
    • Knead the dough into a large ball and return it to the bowl. Cover it with a dishcloth and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until doubled in size.
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F.
    • Roll the dough into a large rectangle (Make sure not to roll it too thin, or it will rip when you roll it up). Spread the dough with the softened butter and sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly over it. Roll the dough up and cut into 10 rolls (you can discard the two end bits). This will leave you with 8 good-sized rolls.
    • Place rolls in a lightly greased 9x13-inch baking pan. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled, about thirty minutes.
    • Bake rolls in a preheated oven until golden brown, about 15 minutes. While the rolls are baking, beat together the ingredients for the frosting. Spread or drizzle it on warm rolls before serving.

    Notes

Helpful Hint: 💡 To ensure the best rise for your cinnamon rolls, place the covered dough in a warm environment while it rises. You can create a warm spot by turning your oven to the lowest setting for a few minutes, then turning it off and placing the dough inside. This helps the yeast activate and creates light, fluffy rolls.

How large of a rectangle do I roll out? Am I cutting into 1/2”, 1” pieces?

No, it is for the individual rolls.

Prebaked rolls rose beautifully. I read the bake time as 40 min which seemed a bit long. I set the timer for 30 min and they were slightly burned. I will try again at 20 minutes.
Too much sweetener for me. I will decrease the sweetener and add some ground nuts. The sweetener at the bottom of the pan (that leaked out after baking) was elastic/rubbery.
I am excited to make my diabetic family members this recipe again with my own tweaks. I hadn't heard of this flour before...so thanks for that.

Thanks for your feedback, it really helps me dial recipes in for everyone. I will make notes for everyone! I know ovens can vary but I will check the recipe and see if it was a type with the time. Let me know how the rolls work for you with just 20 minutes of bake time.
